YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION COMMITTEES   

 
COMMITTEE PREFERENCE FORM


 

MEMBERSHIP SERVICE

CLE/PROFESSIONALISM:
Organizes engaging CLE programs presented by experts in their field on key topics benefitting young lawyers, including timely topics on professionalism and ethics. Committee members will also help plan and put on DCBA/YLS's annual Superlawyers event.

JUDICIAL OUTREACH:
Works to increase access and communication between young lawyers and judges in the community.  The primary responsibility is to plan and implement the highly successful “Lunch with the Judges” program.

SOCIAL/MEMBER SERVICES:
Plans YLS social and cultural events, including networking events, Happy Hours, and member service programs.

SPORTS:
Implements the popular Softball Tournament, Kickball Tournament, and other sports-related events.

RAINMAKERS COMMITTEE: (Bids for Kids/Judicial Reception) 
Organizes and promotes networking-oriented programming as well as hosts DCBA's premeire events.

 

BAR PASSAGE PROGRAM:
Assists local law students in their preparation for the essay portion of the Florida Bar Exam. Each law student is paired with a practicing attorney who acts as a tutor and mentor during the weeks leading up to the Exam.

HOMELESS OUTREACH
This Committee was created to provide resources & support to many of the county's homeless. Its current focus stems around homeless children at the Chapman Center and regularly hosts educational and social events for the homeless children at the center. 

HORIZONS (GIRLS):
Members serve as positive role models for underprivileged teenage girls to hone their skills and talents and determine possible career options.

SCHOOLS:
Implements programs with local schools, including the E-Mentoring Program and High School Mock Trial Competition.  The E-mentoring program provides high school students enrolled in a special law magnet program with individualized, academic motivational support via e-mail on a weekly basis.  The High School Mock Trial Competition plans and coordinates the February high school wide competition, including recruiting members to judge the competition.

PRO BONO/COMMUNITY SERVICE: (INCLUDES VETERANS)
Implements and coordinates public service projects in local communities and law-related education programs, including the Section's veterans and foster care outreach programs.
