The Miami Dade State Attorney's Office JIMMY RYCE SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR UNIT

The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office is seeking a trial attorney with a minimum of 3-4 years litigation experience for a position in its "Jimmy Ryce" Civil Commitment of Sexually Violent Predators Unit (SVPU). Membership in the Florida Bar is required, although an applicant who has passed the Florida Bar and is awaiting clearance may be considered.

This position has responsibilities that include conducting jury or bench trials on these civil cases, reviewing civil commitment petitions, defending the constitutionality of the SVP statute 394.910, as well as legal issues that arise out of the implementation of this law. The applicant selected for this position will also be responsible for coordinating the implementation of this law with statewide agencies and other prosecuting agencies around the state and country, dealing with novel legal issues and presenting expert psychological testimony in court. Travel for depositions, both within the state and outside is expected. As most of the cases will be resolved by trial, applicants must have trial experience. Preference will be given to applicants who have a background in complex trial preparation and deposing and presenting expert testimony.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and is expected to be within the range of $45,000 to $60,000. The full package of State benefits accompanies this position.
