PRO BONO CLINIC FOR NOT-FOR-PROFITS

Date: Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Time: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Reception begins at 5:30 – Appointments begin at 6:00

Where: University of Miami School of Law, 1311 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, Florida 33146.  The sign-in and reception will  take place in the outdoor courtyard of the law school.  Free parking will be provided.

Miami-Dade County attorneys are joining together to provide free legal consultation to area nonprofit organizations. This opportunity is being organized by the Pro Bono Committee of the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar in three areas of the state.  Miami is the third beneficiary of this exciting offer of free legal help.  Local partners include: the HOPE Public Interest Resource Center at the University of Miami School of Law and the Legal Aid Society & Office of Public Service of the Dade County Bar Association.

This program is designed for new and developing nonprofits. When you register you can choose an appointment time to meet with an attorney who can advise you on the full gamut of legal matters: contracts, employment, corporate, real estate, or other areas of concern. They can review your legal documents, assist with bylaws, articles of incorporation, help clear titles to land, prepare real estate documents, review loan documents, and more. (Please note that we will do our best to accommodate appointment time requests and will be in touch with you to confirm your appointment.)

If you are uncertain if your nonprofit needs legal advice, you can sign up to make an appointment for a “Legal Health Check-up.” You can sit down with the attorney who will help measure the legal health of your organization by asking you just a few questions. This will give you, your executive director, and your board members enormous peace of mind.

The expectation for the evening is that you will be able to consult with the attorney who can offer assistance on the spot or you both may determine that you need to arrange for an additional appointment at a later date for more complex legal issues.
